That is sad and deplorable news in this day of incredibly advanced observation and intelligence capabilities the USAF mistakenly bomb Syrian troops in September by the misidentification of a vehicle SFC Joe S. Davis Jr., MSM, DSL.
We have been accusing the Russians of bombing the wrong targets for some time and Russia had a fighter shot down by mistake by Turkey in the recent past. Friendly fire is not friendly at all to those receiving it [happened to me at least twice].
I am thankful that "Brig. Gen. Richard Coe, the Air Combat Command inspector general who led the investigation into the airstrike, said that “confirmation bias” stemming from that first misidentification colored the subsequent decisions made by others involved in the strike. And a series of missteps involved in communicating with the Russians via a hotline meant the strikes continued longer than they needed to."
It is good that the IG recognized it was our mistake and that the USAF in CENTCOM is working in coordination with the Russians for coordination of air strikes, etc.
I hope and pray that this error will not be repeated and that ISIS, al Nusra, etc. will be faithfully targeted with as few blue and green casualties as possible.
