The Blimp hangar at Moffett Field NAS has been taken down. I can’t imagine the landscape along the Highway between Mt View and Milpitas, CA without the hangar. It is where I was stationed and worked out of in the mid 70’s.

PO3 Bob McCord - when I was Nuclear Weapons Loading Instructor, I worked on the second deck of the port side of the hangar. Prior to that I was working as the shop chief for VP 31 Weapons branch located adjacent to the starboard side of the hangar. Point of reference from Hwy 101 looking at the hangar.
I was working outside the hangar when a P3 B and an Ames surveillance aircraft were vectored to the same flight path and collided and crashed into the golf course across 101 from the hangar. That was a terrible sight. An airman in the aft end of the P3 was thrown free of the P3 when it crashed, because he was not strapped in. All other crew who were strapped in, perished. The crew of the Ames craft all died as well.

PO3 Bob McCord - actually it happened before that, because I changed duty stations in 74 and went to North Island, in San Diego.

LTC (Join to see) - I don’t know, a friend told me the old hanger had been removed. I did not know there was plans to build a new one.

I've been in lots of hangers like that, pretty functional design especially for large aircraft. Hope it survives!

That's a pretty big project to restore after years of neglect but it would sure be shame to lose that piece of History. Once its gone it gone forever. Its good that the Air Museum is there and not forget the connection to aviation in Edmonton. It reminds Me of What is now the Wings over the Rockies Air Museum in Denver, Colorado at what used to Lowry AFB, CO where the airfield that used to be Lowry AFB, is also gone. One old massive Hanger is now the museum the other converted to business use. What had been Lowry AFB is now the Lowry section of the city of Denver with a population of over 10,000 people. Shown in this picture is the main entrance to the Museum with a B52 static display aircraft in front. I was very disappointed when Lowry AFB, Co had close and I had been stationed there in 1970-71 and enjoyed the assignment a great deal. I liked the Base and also loved Colorado and most of My family was in Massachusetts and that was important otherwise I had considered moving there to Colorado on a permanent basis.

Just a thought perhaps if the City of Edmonton saw How Denver. CO handled the use of an old hanger also of WWII Vintage on another very large airfield now also gone they might get some ideas.

The new neighborhood of Blatchford was supposed to be built since the Edmonton Municipal Airport. My Wife and Kids were there observing people pulled over to see the last Cessna leave the airport before it closed.

Went through Munitions Maintenance Officer school at Lowry in 1980. Loved the base and since I was a Major going through a course intended for 2nd Lieutenants I had lots of time to explore Denver.

Lt Col John (Jack) Christensen - When I was at I was assigned to Lowery AFB I was a good guy and wore a white Hat in the Security Police there. Off duty I spent a lot of time going all over Colorado and seeing as much as I could. I loved Denver and got to know the city pretty well. I was still single then that was great in that area. Off Duty also I was a member of the Lowry Squadron, Civil Air Patrol which met on the Base.
