Thanks SSG(P) (Join to see) since we have many relatives in Florida and one who is a SWAT team member we tend to check out reports.
Update: A shooting at a high school in Parkland, Florida, killed at least 17 people, stunning the town and much of the nation, as investigators raced to find a possible motive behind the bloodbath.
The suspect was identified as 19-year-old Nikolas Cruz, a former student at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School who'd been expelled for disciplinary reasons, Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel confirmed during an evening news conference. Sen. Bill Nelson told Fox News that Cruz was wearing a gas mask and may have had smoke bombs during the rampage.
The school was under lockdown as police rushed to the scene during the afternoon.
Of the 17 people killed, 12 of them died in the school, two were killed outside, one died on the street and another two died at the hospital, Israel said. He added that 15 people were transported to the hospital.
The suspect carried an AR-15 rifle and had "countless magazines," the sheriff said.
Cruz was seen wearing a maroon shirt as police led him off to a squad car. Video provided to WSVN appeared to show officers cuffing the suspect in the grass.

Horrifying. All of our schools require people to be buzzed in after the initial morning arrival time. What is the policy there? Is the school open to anyone?

And they wonder why they should let teachers pack iron. That way they could take out the trash.

I’m amazed at the laid back, ho hum, stories from the kids when they’re talking to reporters. They just said the shooter is the one who sounded the alarm and started shooting when the kids were running down the halls. What a cowardly POS. My prayers are with all of the families, kids, and school employees. One kid described rapid fire so I guess he used an assault weapon. Reporters were told the shooter was kicked out of the school last year for wearing a back pack, and knowing his fantasy with firearms. He was also fascinated with ISIS and how they killed. Looks like he would have been a red flag with that much knowledge about him. Probably slipped through the cracks, like so many do. Terrible. Makes me very sad.

SGT (Join to see) Unfortunately, it has become so commonplace that students are immune to the shock. As a public school teacher, we conduct numerous lockdowns, and the students know what to do. We have had lockdown and fire alarms during the drill. We teach them to ignore fire bells if we are in lockdown. It is sad that we have to take so many precautions, but it is the necessary thing to do. It was reported that the weapon was an AR-15. How these kids get a hold of those kinds of weapons is beyond me. Responsible adults and gun owners need to lock their weapons, so kids and the deranged can't use them.

He could have used a pressure cooker with nails and had the same effect. The issue is mental illness.

Everything thing does not require a diagnoses. He could just be a mean worthless piece of shit that needs to have his right to breathing revoked immediately. Like yesterday in the grass would have been ok.
