Those are, but when dealing with news reports you have to remember they often use stock photos. The article clearly states he was in possession of at least two M-67 Fragmentation grenades. This also points out the ignorance of the media when it comes to the military. Some editor who never served in the military decided to go with that photo.

He just likes to blow things up SFC Joe S. Davis Jr., MSM, DSL, hopefully in a good way. But not anymore I guess!

Thanks for sharing an interesting news article which has a picture of practice frag grenades SFC Joe S. Davis Jr., MSM, DSL. Here is an image of an actual M67 Grenade.
I think it seems reasonable to recommend probation for former U.S. Army explosives expert John Panchalk because he had 38 pounds of C-4 explosive, detonation cord, blasting caps, grenade simulators, incendiary devices and the two fragmentation grenades at his home on Overland Park, Kansas. Based on the incidents and discovery I am certain that John Panchalk knew exactly what he had and how to store it safely. It was not a great idea to store parts of his previous job illegally but I understand the lure of wanting to be connected to your past.
