Thanks TSgt Joe C. for reminding us that on May 2, 2001 President George W. Bush appointed a commission to investigate potential changes to the nation’s Social Security system.
As we all remember the social security lock box was a myth. Current proceeds from FICA are spent each year while Congress separately funds the payments to social security recipients. If it weren't the government, this Ponzi scheme would have been decaled illegal decades ago.

The Social Security trust fund has been Congress' preferred method of hiding huge deficit spending, and now that the baby boomer generation is retiring, the drain on federal resources will be devastating. There are several methods that Congress could use to keep Social Security self funded for many more years, especially by making all income from wages taxable and so ending the cap on wages taxed for Social Security. Other means will also have to be found & implemented.
