I just got back from my third attempt to see the Northern/Southern Lights. I spent a week in Iceland a few years ago and it rained every day. I spent a week in Stewart Island, New Zealand (the southern-most inhabited point (Antarctic scientific stations don't count)) two years ago and it rained every day. I just returned from a 12-day cruise up and down the coast of Norway, with seven days above the Arctic Circle. Guess what... Yep, it rained every day. I did get to see a Northern Light (single green stripe overhead) for about a minute. I think I am going to get a one-way ticket to Fairbanks, AK and sit in a hotel until a premium clear night occurs and actually see the whole light show.
