I am not surprised that civilians including children are being killed in and around Aleppo, Syria SFC Joe S. Davis Jr., MSM, DSL. These could be insurgent-caused casualties or Syrian-government-caused casualties or a combination.
There are many different groups fighting in Syria, each with their own agenda and objectives. Those aligned with the Syrian Government including the Iranians, the Kurdish Peshmerga [our only true allies], and those aligned with al Qaeda have clear objectives.
The rest of the fighters and the Turks and to some extent the Russians are pursuing their own agenda which sometimes coincide with the allies.
There is currently an assault on Raqqa, Syria by "US-backed" forces. Hopefully those are closer to good guys than bad guys.

LTC Stephen F. great detailed analysis of the factions within Syria, this could lead to more bloodshed IMHO if it doesn't end soon.
