WOW, I knew that we have a serious defect in our system of bridge and highway management, with most maintenance being done to keep traffic moving in the short run. The joke where I came from in Milwaukee is that there are 2 seasons: winter and orange-barrel! The fact that this phenomenon is international is depressing. The bottom line is that our gas taxes are going to maintain what we have on an ad-hoc basis rather than using the funds for future road design. All of the silliness during the 20th Century about eliminating cars and moving all of us into public transportation was laughable.

When we were in Poland in 2010 and 2011 teaching English Bible Camps, I was amazed (not in a good way) that as soon as the Russians left and the Travant was the only car available, used cars were quickly brought in, sold for cheap and Poles got to drive for the first time. Now their roads are so congested...same issues we have.

How do we wean ourselves from the dominance of the immediate to planning for the future instead of reacting to current collapses.

Looks like a very promising piece of technology.
