Well, that is interesting... Doable, yes... Problematic, absolutely... As an ATG guy, I have issues with the FDNF and their readiness (don't really need to re-hash that, the trials are coming up). I do like the quick response that they provide, but they actually spend more on repairs and maintenance than other ships. So, that has to be counted for. On the tactical side, I like the idea of being unpredictable. Everyone on earth knew when a carrier was at sea, and when they moved the deployment a bit it was always a big deal. But, GEN Mattis is smart guy, and has smart people around him, so I am sure that they will come up with something better. Really like the idea that they are taking families into account in this planning.

Sounds great on a long term strategic basis, but shouldn’t we fix what’s broken first, before implementing a major overhaul of deployment that will disrupt the entire Navy leadership cadre?

About time...thank you Sir.
It's going to force the Fleet to streamline without "cutting corners", and hopefully, that will result in top-to-bottom re-think on how we man vessels, qualify personnel, and manage maintenance.
