Thanks TSgt Joe C. for letting us know that on Christmas Eve 1952 the McCarran-Walter Act took effect and revised U.S. immigration laws. The law was hailed by supporters as a necessary step in preventing communist subversion in the United States, while opponents decried the legislation as being xenophobic and discriminatory.
I well remember in security background investigations having to sear and affirm that I was n o a communist.
