Thanks Capt Sabrena Goldman for sharing the first part of the oral history interview with USMC (Ret.) SgtMaj Mike "Iron Mike" D. Mervosh
Image: 2012-3-14 Retired Marine Sgt. Maj. Mike D. Mervosh attends the 67th Iwo Jima Reunion of Honor ceremony to honor the men he fought alongside 67 years ago here March 14. The Battle of Iwo Jima lasted for 36 days and nearly 30,000 lives were lost from both Japan and the United States. The ceremony gave both countries the opportunity to honor the service members who lost their lives during the battle. The reunion was sponsored by the Iwo Jima Associations of America and Japan and was coordinated with assistance from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the government of Japan and the U.S. Marine Corps. Mervosh was a company commander during the Battle of Iwo Jima and retired from the Marine Corps after 35 years of service in 1977.
Kudos to USMC photographer Cpl. Justin Wheeler from III Marine Expeditionary Force for capturing this great picture
