The first time I flew into Saigon my helicopter passed over a tank farm along the Saigon River (Is that now the Ho Chi Minh River?). Back at my base camp I asked a senior officer how that tank farm wasn't destroyed. It seemed an easy target for someone in a small boat with an RPG or mortar. He said that Standard Oil owned those tanks and paid the VC to leave them alone. Has anyone ever heard of this? Can confirm or deny it?
