That whole auto bailout was a taxpayer nightmare. Billions were lost, stolen and given to the wrong people. I understand final price on each auto was about twice what it normally was. Better cars were traded in than a lot of the poor drive. But there was a lot of weird payout back then also. My question is who got the money. Another of my questions is how much retirement is the government covering for companys.

Thanks for reminding us TSgt Joe C. that on March 30, 2009 U.S. President Barack Obama issued an ultimatum to struggling American automakers General Motors (GM) and Chrysler. The Federal bailout of those automakers as well as the banking industry shook up the financial markets and caused a lot of angst because somebody decided that some financial institutions were too big to be allowed to fail. Socialism was lifted up against capitalism.

I could never understand where the government got the authority to spend public money to bail out private corporations. If a business or a bank etc. is so poorly run it can not compete, it should either change or fail on it's own. Besides, who in the government has the experience or smarts to make good business decisions. Back then I mean.

SP5 Robert Ruck - I concur with you. I was surprised the SCOTUS let the bailout move forward with public Taxpayer finding.
