To be honest I would say that Russia and Turkey have been marginal allies in "our" fight against terror LTC Greg Henning. Russia has been preoccupied with its allegiance to Bashar Assad and its fights in South Dagestan and Chechnya and Turkey has been shoring up its allegiance with radical Islam while Recep Tayyip Erdogan has been president and has been doggedly determined to put down the Kurds.
the fact that they are reviving economic plans and talks on Syria makes sense since they are neighbors across the Black sea and Russia needs Turkey's good graces to move vessels to and from the Mediterranean Sea from the Black Sea ports.
Thanks for mentioning me LTC (Join to see)

The entire U.S. Government disagrees with you---it considers Turkey a vital Ally in the fight against terror, including the fight against the PKK, a recognized (by the US and EU, and Turkey) terrorist organization.
Also, I agree, it makes sense for Russia and Turkey to revive economic plans and relations. The vast majority of NATO and EU countries have done the same. So has the US.

MAJ (Join to see) - try telling the US Congress, which is a major part of the US Government, "The entire U.S. Government disagrees with you---it considers Turkey a vital Ally in the fight against terror, including the fight against the PKK, a recognized (by the US and EU, and Turkey) terrorist organization."
For some reason you keep equating the PKK with the Kurds who have been our allies in in northern Iraq going back to the mid-1990s.
It is in Turkey's best interests to have good relations with Russia. Even in the Crimean War in the 1850s, it was primarily the British fighting the Russians in Turkey. Many Turks looked at Russia and Britain as Colonial masters and Russia was closer to them in location and temperament.

LTC Stephen F. - What do you mean when you say "Kurds"? The only group of Kurds that Turkey has fought against is the PKK, and its associated offshoots in Iraq and Syria. Turkey has fabulous relationships with many other Kurdish groups, including the Kurds of northern Iraq. I agree---it is in Turkey's best interests to have relations with Russia. Just as it is in the EU's interests, NATO's interests, Germany's interests, the US's interests, etc.

Birds of a feather flock together. Putin probably says, hey, its Putin 101 break the rules book you are using. Let us try to split NATO from the East and West! Egypt, Turkey and Russia do the same things to their own people.

A KGB Agent/Presidents wet dream come true. Closing down the Air Base in Turkey that we have been using against him as long as I can remember. Also a great way to deny the US Navy access to the Black Sea. Only Pluses for Russia.
