Ray Price used to hang out at one of my father’s honkytonks in near West Dallas in the late 40s and early 50s. I guess my dad knew him pretty well. Flash forward to 1998 and a few weeks before my father passed away. I picked dad up at his assisted living facility to take him to dinner. On the way a song came on the radio. My dad asked, “Who is that?” I told him I thought it was Ray Price. He got this frown on his face and said, “Shit, if you see that sonofabitch you tell him he still owes me fifty bucks.”

Yep, I told him, the next time I run into Ray I’ll remind him.
