Thanks for reminding us SP5 Mark Kuzinski that Senate Republican leader Everett Dirksen (Illinois) and House Republican leader Charles Halleck (Indiana) said that the Vietnam War will be a campaign issue because “Johnson’s indecision has made it one” a joint news conference on July 2, 1964. Since both POTUS John F. Kennedy and the man he outwardly supported as leader of South Vietnam Ngo Dinh Diem had been assassinated since the previous November and the election was only a little over 4 months away, the Vietnam war policy seemed very appropriate to discuss.
