Sound Off: Should Chesty Puller Finally Get the Medal of Honor?

Chesty would not be amused. He is already the most decorated Marine in our history. His place in the lore of the Marine Corps lives on and on.

Going after an upgrade in a medal for actions generations ago is unnecessary. There isn't a Marine alive that doesn't know who Chesty is and what he did. Chesty doesn't need an upgrade, he is the upgrade.

Let's not forget he also earned an Army Distinguished Service Cross as well( That's six times he was awarded the medal just below that of an MOH). He sure pissed off more than one GO/ Admiral and Brass in Washington D.C. If his award is ever elevated to an MOH I'd say it's more likely now under President Trumps Administration then any other. I still think it will have to be a future Congress that can get legislation approved thru both houses of congress. Good night Chesty wherever this post finds you and Semper Fi Marine!

Well if he were alive, I would expect it might make sense to lobby for Chesty Puller to have one of his Navy Crosses or his DCS upgraded to a Medal of Honor SGT (Join to see)
However, it would be a major decision about which award to be upgraded.
I don't think it make sense to lobby for an award upgrade for USMC LTG Chesty Puller and I expect he would concur.
IMHO it makes sense to search for heroism in combat from the less-than-famous soldiers, marines and sailors of WWI through Korea primarily. Awarding a living recipient with an upgrade to MOH would be wonderful for many reasons.
