I am thinking about going back into a uniform. After Harvey wrecked Houston the State of Texas decided to bring on a lot more people in their Disaster Response group. No pay and I doubt some who claim it will add to my years of service for retirement so this will be just to help out my fellow Texans in an emergency. Well you get paid if the group is called up but that will actually work out to be a pay cut for me. What do you think, would you put the uniform on again? After looking at the Active State Militia forces in the US, I also discovered that NC used to have both a North Carolina State Defense Militia AND a North Carolina Naval Militia. That was a surprise.
Having said that - if these organizations were active, Nope! I am afraid that after retiring at 49 years old and being retired since 1996, I may be a little old to serve again. Besides that, I am not quite as limber as I once was.

If I didn't have family responsibilities, I would do it in a heartbeat. Met some of them during Harvey, and they are top notch people.

Age and responsibilities to family would prevent it. But, were it not for those two issues, I definitely would jump in.
