Good morning, Colonel. Traditions, rituals, and other things like them abound in every walk of life. We all know about them in the military; parades, change of command ceremony, NCO pinning, Officer Dining-ins, unit flashes, and many more. But believers, in all religions, have traditions and rituals as well. My point is that traditions formed the anchors we need to identify, relate too, understand, and bond with those around us. We need traditions to help us understand ourselves.

Great message about traditions SSG Samuel Kermon - thanks for shraing brother...

“Those that came before us set traditions (some good and some bad) — we should respect the ones that were good and carry on those traditions and the ones that were bad we should forget and move on or establish better, more worthy traditions. That leads me to this quote…

‘Tradition is not to preserve the ashes. But to pass on the flame.’ — Gustav Mahler

May you the traditions you follow have special meaning and eb inspiring; may your mind, body, and soul be opened to grace, goodness, peace, forgiveness, and a continued bountiful life of purpose; and keep your family safe, secure, happy, and healthy.” — COL (Ret) Mikel Burroughs

Hopefully you and I do our best to respect the traditions of those we interact with. I pray that we are respectful when trying to learn about the traditions of others – especially those which seem strange to us. Military traditions, family traditions, neighborhood traditions, work-related traditions including retirement ceremonies, burial traditions and other traditions are beneficial to many and none are inherently harmful. Traditions of caring for aging relatives, suffering spouses and children, supporting charitable efforts are each worthy of emulation. I pray that each of us do our best to be free from envy, jealousy and pride. God is an ever-present help in all areas. ‘Everything is indeed clean, but it is wrong for anyone to make another stumble …. It is good not to eat meat or drink wine or do anything that causes your brother to stumble. The faith that you have, keep between yourself and God. Blessed is the one who has no reason to pass judgment on himself for what he approves. [Romans 14:19-22 ESV] my brother-in-Christ SSG Samuel Kermon.

I pray for eyes to see, ears to hear, and a heart sensitive to YOU for each of YOUR adopted sons and daughters who reads or listens to this prayer dear LORD. Empower us to respect each person we interact with. Help us to fulfil the greatest commandment by treating each person we interact with as we would like to be treated or better by demonstrating agape love to each one. YOU always accept each person as we are. Help us to do likewise and honor YOU. ‘And he said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments depend all the Law and the Prophets.’ [Matthew 22:37-40 ESV]
I pray for wisdom and discernment for each of us dear LORD. I thank YOU for sanctifying the soul of each of YOUR own individually and corporately. YOU prune us of desires, goals, and even traditions which are distractions or worse for us and those we love. YOU give us hope and YOU bless each of us with new desires. I thank YOU for renewing the mind of each of throughout our life of faith in YOU. YOU fulfill YOUR promises to each generation in YOUR perfect timing. ‘Therefore, preparing your minds for action, and being sober-minded, set your hope fully on the grace that will be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ. As obedient children, do not be conformed to the passions of your former ignorance, but as he who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, since it is written, “You shall be holy, for I am holy.” And if you call on him as Father who judges impartially according to each one’s deeds, conduct yourselves with fear throughout the time of your exile, knowing that you were ransomed from the futile ways inherited from your forefathers, not with perishable things such as silver or gold, but with the precious blood of Christ, like that of a lamb without blemish or spot.’ [1 Peter 1:13-19 ESV]
I lift new families, families with young children, grandparents with young grandchildren, aunts, uncles, co-workers, employers and employees, and each other family, group, or neighborhood open to improving relationships to YOU dear LORD. I pray that YOU bless each individual and group of people with ideas to improve relationships including establishing and updating traditions. ‘See to it that no one takes you captive by philosophy and empty deceit, according to human tradition, according to the elemental spirits of the world, and not according to Christ. For in him the whole fullness of deity dwells bodily, and you have been filled in him, who is the head of all rule and authority.' [Colossians 2:8-10 ESV]

Heed the admonition of the LORD
1. Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” [Matthew 11:28-30]
2. ‘Now we command you, brothers, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you keep away from any brother who is walking in idleness and not in accord with the tradition that you received from us. For you yourselves know how you ought to imitate us, because we were not idle when we were with you.’ [2 Thessalonians 3:6-8]
I pray that you and your family members sleep well Saturday night and will awake refreshed and healthy on Sunday morning.
By the power and authority of the Name above all names, Jesus the Christ.

Good Saturday morning Burroughs Posse Leader from the clearing skies of the greater Boston area after TS Elsa passed through...

Today’s Message is: “Traditions Day!” Why Not?

"A tradition without intelligence is not worth having." - T. S. Eliot

"Tradition is the illusion of permanence." - Woody Allen

"Tradition is a process of debate over what links past, present, and future in a continuity that is meaningful and authoritative." - Zareena Grewal

"Sometimes traditions turn into unwritten rules we don't want to break." Jay Feeney

"I'd rather be at the end of a dying tradition, which I admire, than at the beginning of a tradition which I deplore." - Margaret Drabble

"Every heart that has beat strong and cheerfully has left a hopeful impulse behind it in the world, and bettered the tradition of mankind." - Robert Lewis Stevenson

"Tradition has a richness to it, and a diversity that is overlooked not only by its opponents, but even more by its chief defenders. It is an ongoing, centuries-long conversation with the world about the great, perennial moral and political questions." - Charles J. Reid

Yes, "Traditions" may be good or bad depending on how one looks at each one, but as time moves on...

“Leaders should recognize the traditions that have meaning to their people and organization. Innovative leadership will create new traditions.” — COL (Ret) Mikel Burroughs

Good morning Col Burroughs and posse. Tom and I are getting ready to join up for the VFV ride this morning.
Our traditions help to define us, and bring us together. Most of us have family traditions we've learned from our parents and passed on to our children. And our military units had traditions too and they created a sense of pride and unity. But sometimes traditions should be updated by changes around us melding the best of the past with current experience.

Great quote about one of my favorite plays. I've responded elsewhere that watching Leonard Nemoy staring in it back in the 70s was one of the best performances I can remember.
