Defense Flash News : Correctional Custody Unit
Thanks CW5 Jack Cardwell for sharing an image o CAMP HANSEN, OKINAWA, Japan – Brig Marines simulate hard labor during a Correctional Custody Unit demonstration Jan. 12 in the Brig aboard Camp Hansen, Okinawa, Japan.
Background: Awardees, Marines assigned to the CCU, will spend seven or 30 days under constant surveillance completing hard labor, formal uniform inspections, combat fitness training and values-based relapse prevention training. The Correctional Custody Unit is scheduled to open their doors Feb. 14 at the Brig aboard Camp Hansen, Okinawa, Japan. The curriculum is designed to foster leadership and decision making abilities in order to have a lasting impact that better supports long term restoration.

"Senior Marine Corps officials have delayed the opening of a controversial correctional unit on Okinawa, Japan, where Marines who get in trouble will do hard labor, including breaking rocks with sledgehammers.
The new Correctional Custody Unit, or CCU, at Camp Hansen, Okinawa, was initially scheduled to open its doors Feb. 14 [2018]. But plans changed and the opening was pushed back until May 2, [2018] according to officials at Marine Corps Installations Pacific.
It’s been several years since the Corps last operated a CCU, which invokes images of a menial labor camp with Marines sweating in the hot sun and pounding rock piles into small pieces — a characterization military officials have told Marine Corps Times is inaccurate."

So, let me get this straight, we treat our trouble makers with hard labor , and send terrorists to a long vacation on the tropical island of Cuba? Something wrong with this picture.
