The media was the fuel that kept the protesters agitated and opposed not only to the war, but against the veteran personally. We were made out to be druggies, murderers, and baby killers! To this day the media will not admit that veterans were spit on.
I personally feel that what the media wrote about the Vietnam veteran led to many veterans isolating themselves, second guessing their participation in Vietnam, feeling guilty, and subsequently committing suicide. The majority of the daily reported 22 veteran suicides are Vietnam veterans. The media went out of it way to disrespect and denigrate, not only the Vietnam veteran, but anyone who served. To make matter worse, the government responded to the media by limiting the veteran's capability to take the fight to the enemy (ROI).
I learn to forgive, but I will never forget the role the media played in the destruction of so many Vietnam veteran lives! I served with honor and I am proud of those who served along side me. "It don't mean nothing!"

Sgt Joe LaBranche, "I learn to forgive, but I will never forget the role the media played in the destruction of so many Vietnam veteran lives!"
You are a better man than I am Joe. I have not forgotten either, but I have also not forgiven the American left for what they did to this country as well as my fellow veterans, especially because they are continuing to spew their poison today and seem determined to force yet another military defeat for our country. And our current CINC is among the worst of them.

Capt Seid Waddell, forgiveness gives me inner peace and prevents hate in my heart! However, like you, I too will never forget what our government and our people did to the Vietnam veterans.

Sgt Joe LaBranche, I don't hate; I just recognize the left as the lower life form that they are.

Some of "our own" did add fuel to that fire, I cannot think of SECSTATE John Kerry without foaming at the mouth.

Started reading this yesterday and finished it up just now....Loooong read. I made comment on a thread yesterday regarding the media. We at least received real news back then, (late sixties and early seventies) May have been biased but at least we got it and a with a grain of salt we had an idea of what was happening. Short answer, the media did no favors for the soldiers involved in Vietnam..There or back home

I respond to this post by using the closing scene from "Platoon" something to the effect we will remember these times for the rest of our lives for myself anyway that is the truth
