I think countries like Germany and England (France not a full member) are picking up steam in recent years. I tend to question most of these mutual defense treaties value. When the heavy lifting is to be done, it falls on the USA for dues and military forces for the most part.

In some of my studies I am wondering if NATO has surpassed its usefulness. It is a great standard for the now free eastern block countries to join in. But we seem to be the bill later and biggeset brother. Some hidden benefit I suppose to the AEF structure.

Yes, we have been and continue to be the bill payer. Has Europe's memory become so dim, as the WWII vets die off, that they don't see the danger of a resurgent Russia?
