Refrain, restrictions, closely controlled, and final halting. Not really a great way to fight a war. I understand not wanting to escalate into a world war, but exactly what do you think happens when you run the shit show from a desk worried about political pressure. You put lives in danger but not allowing them to do what you sent them in for.... great history Mark.

PO3 Bob McCord - Very true and I also know often what You heard in the press didn't match what i was seeing by actually being in Vietnam ! It was, gee are We even talking about the same war ? When politicians get You into war then micro manage and get people killed instead of having General's and Admirals do the jobs they were trained for there is a massive problem ! Either We are there to fight a war or We aren't and if We can't do the job once there then don't put us there !

PO3 Bob McCord - can't apologize enough. Thanks for your service and for counting me among your brothers. The tragedy here is we have repeated this tragic error once again in the Central Asian AOR. You can't unleash the beast and leave them on a leash.

Hitler tried that kind of control, and it cost him the war. But our politicians (and sadly many military leaders) forgot the lessons of WWII as soon as it was over. Political control cost us dearly during Nam, and in the end it cost us the war as well.

When the first round is fired, when the first boot hits the ground, it means the politicians have failed. The only control they should be able to exert at that point is selling War Bonds. Make 'em get off their sorry butts and do something to help!
