Hello Friends here on the Rally Point.
Tomorrow is the end of the third quarter of the 2023-2024 academic school year. I tried something different this quarter that I never did before. I had a contest (sort of) to win a squirrel mount. There were only four rules to be eligible for the mount.
1) No more than five total absences and tardies to my class
2) A passing grade for the quarter (even if the grade was a "D." The contest wasn't based on the highest average)
3) No discipline referrals from me.
4) Must be present to win at 1500 hours today.
With numbers on poker chips from 1 - 18 the student selected their own number. To make sure they knew all was fair I had the custodian do the drawing of the winning poker chip. Before the drawing we were talking about lucky numbers. I mentioned that 2, 3, 5, 7, 11, 13, and 17 were all lucky numbers because they are prime numbers. The winner originally went with 14 but then asked if he could change it to 13. Since the number wasn't claimed yet, I let him...and it won. So, indeed 13 is a lucky number.
I mounted the squirrel but the materials were paid for my A1C Medrick "Rick" DeVaney and another Veteran supporter here on the Rally Point. Their donation of money has helped pay for material for several mounts I have done for students all free of charge! Thanks Brother Rick and the other Veteran who wishes to remain anonymous. I'm sure my students also thank you indirectly!
I would like to think that this contest helped some work a bit harder with the promise of winning this squirrel. Years from now while it is hanging on the wall he will remember this day.
Have a great evening everyone.

I've tried several times to post a link to a clock that uses equations for the numerals, but Rallypoint won't accept it.

A student got me this exact clock back in the last day in the Spring of 2013 as he was finishing my class. Student's always say they can't read it! Years ago I gave a quiz using the problems on this clock...with the clock right in front of them. Only two noticed where the problems came from!

Cpl Vic Burk - That is a different clock.
Paste this into Google search: It is the $10.73 one from Temu.

SPC Michael Terrell - There are several different versions out there as you saw. The calculus teacher has one relating to calculus expressions and equations.

Cpl Vic Burk Question: Who is the real winner here? You or the student? Congratulations to both of you for your endeavors!
