I would add that since no man or woman is an island, we are developed by the influence of others for both good or evil in addition to our own efforts. Character is formed in adversity.
The sanctification process by God in each of our lives includes the influence of other people which can be for chastisement, compassion, and or gentle washing by the words of our lips and the Word of God.
