Good morning, Rallypoint. Today's Astronomy Picture of the Day (APOD) is titled "The Tadpoles of IC 410." Trevor Jones of astrobackyard.com has produced some remarkable photographs, and this is one of them. IC 410 is an area of ionized hydrogen (H II Region), hence our being able to see it as an emission nebula. The Tadpoles (below and right of center) are about 10 light years long and are likely sites of star formation. IC 410 is about 10,000 light years away in the constellation Auriga (between Gemini and Perseus). The star cluster NGC 1893 is behind IC 410 relative our line of site, and is about 12,400 light years distant. Data from the Chandra X-Ray Observatory suggests that NGC 1893 contains approximately 4,600 objects.
