RP Members what do you think? Will this happen on this POTUS's watch or by this Congress before the 2016 Elections?

Before anything is done like that, our government better make sure those countries are responsible. In the article it mentioned "they believe" it is Russia and China. That's like somebody going to prison because someone believed they were guilty. It won't happen anyway. It would be stupid to do that considering we're at war with their allies.

I guess they know that. I don't want anything done to start a new war. That Chinese leader is a nut case, and Russia's PooPoo Ten is running a close second.

Capt (Join to see), right! Is there something else we could surrender to them that we haven't already surrendered?

If President Obama has enough fortitude to impose significant sanctions on Russia and China that may be a good thing. Of course significant has to be in the eyes of Russia and China. It would be nice to see Obama imitate the toughness of Reagan in this instance.

LTC Stephen F. I think there are some lessons to be followed by Obama - agreed!

COL Mikel J. Burroughs No and Yes, No broad based sanctions will be imposed. Yes, the US will impose sanctions on a few individuals of Russian and Chinese nationality and the Obama Administration will consider this to be sufficient sanctions.

This POTUS and the current administration has gone out of their collective way to ensure that the Chinese have as much control of the US as they want. This is nothing more than political jockeying for the sake of the Democrats in the next round of elections. Nothing will be done against either nation. Unfortunately, Ronald Regan is no longer the POTUS.

Well "Nancy" it looks like the country has fallen to the dogs and will end up in war on our home soil.

With all due respect, this isn't going anywhere. Where in the US we love to parade our shortcomings in various media outlets, we have managed to keep the lid on our own black hat capabilities and actions. The US isn't as "behind" as some would think we are in regards to cyber capabilities, and our "reach" is rather substantial. If the POTUS wants to do this as a "feel good" measure then that's fine; but what we DON'T hear about can be more damning than what we do. The US is purrrttttyyyy good in the Cyber realm.

SSG Warren Swan I agree we do a lot of this stuff and keep a pretty tight lid on it. I think a lot of the media is just fishing for a response or more story.

Good question. But I'm not sure this will happen but something definitely needs to happen.

SCPO David Lockwood I agree something has to happen otherwise they will do it again and other countries will to.

Yes something should be done, but I don't think this administration will do anything. They are afraid of hurting feelings.

What if we started pulling the "hurt feelings" card ourselves for their inability to do anything in fear of hurting someones feelings? Wonder if that would make a difference.

Yes, sure, maybe a stern letter of disappointment from Johnny Ketchup heinz. It will make them shake in their boots.

We're in a dilemma here. Sanctions always have a backfire aspect to them. Generally we'd be better off not to vent too much publicly. We're at our best when something is taken down and it takes 10 years for someone to wonder if it was us. We've seen a lot about why don't we just shut them down rhetoric. We could, but that works once, maybe twice, and then there's an accelerated cyber arms race. I don't know what the answers are and I'm sure the experts see few, if any, bright lines. Everything you do in the cyberworld gets murky fast. I'd hope our brightest minds are at State who can best evaluate the cause and effect aspects of a reaction.

CAPT Kevin B. You are absolutely correct - this is a very blury situation. If we try impose sanctions then we will start a "cold war" all over agian with not just Russia, but China. I really don't know how we shoudl respond to such an attack (or) do we use it as a lesson learned and "button-up" the back door for future attacks? Surely we are probing and trying to find ways into their systems down in the deep hallways or basements of the CIA, etc.
