Niedermeyer was cast perfecting in Animal House LTC (Join to see)
I saw Animal House while I was a cadet at West Point.
Niedermeyer reminded me to some degree of my drill sergeants in November and December 1974 at Fort Leonard Wood. They were human an were not always evil; but, they sometimes exceeded themselves :-)
I resolved never to be abusive to those I was responsible for. I kept that attitude thorough West Point and I treated each cadet with respect and I kept that attitude through my assignment to an infantry battalion in Germany. As life would have it, in 1986 I was assigned as commander of an infantry training company at Fort Benning. There I did my best to treat each soldier and the civilians in my ding facility with respect. One or twice, I banged heads with drill sergeants over my decisions in Article 15 proceedings and administrative actions. However I supported them respectfully in matters pertaining to the Drill sergeants.

LTC (Join to see) You're a good man LTC Stephen F.. In between my Military Police assignments I was in a Drill Sergeant unit for three years. I hated it. When I was first assigned I thought about go to DS school but after going to three summer camps with this group I realized it was not for me. Some of these DS's were inner city and some weren't but a good many of them were downright abusive to the trainees. I couldn't wait to get back to my MP unit. I have always treated people with respect regardless of who they were.
I know two corrections officers, one who was verbally abusive to his prisoners and one who was respectful. The one who was abusive eventually left or was forced out while the respectful one had a distinguished career. He never forgot who he was guarding but he was always respectful to them. It paid off in many ways while the other got his arse whooped a few times and may have been killed had he not left.

LTC (Join to see) I watch Animal House all the time. Every time I watch it, I see something I haven't seen. It gets me out of a grouchy mood.

LTC (Join to see), D-Day was my hero in Animal House. I had no idea it was Bruce McGill, who went on to make a lot more TV shows.
