Prior service active duty 91A then reclassed to 88M (2008-2013) (National Guard 2013-2015). Looking to re-enlist as a 19K. Can 19K have slight color deficiency? I had to take the R/G/W light color vision test at MEPS. I figure if I can be an Abrams mechanic, I can qualify as a crewman. Also any prior service get back in recently?

I would go 19K as I have watched half baked mechanics trying to determine the problems of the tanks.

If you have not done so...talk with old crew about their experiences and disabilities.... maybe go on a "just like Daddy" weekend and experience crew life. Some of my major disabilities happened around Abrams as a 19D who crewed when he got the chance. Tankers are special Humans, sort of like submariners. I was too dumb and large. Not seeing colors can get everyone killed.

I can see colors just fine, it’s just that dumb color vision test at MEPS with the circle of dots with the hidden number in the middle. I can see a lot of them, but there are a few I can’t make out the number, although I see the different colors in the circle. As I said before I was originally a 91A (Abrams mechanic). So I’ve been in, around, driven tanks quite a bit. I deployed as a tank mechanic, and been around tankers a lot. Just hadn’t thought about being a crewman back then. When I reclassified to 88M I was in 2TC out of Ft. Irwin which was a HET unit, so I’ve hauled many Abrams too. I figured, I’ve fixed them, hauled them, so it must be destiny that I eventually be a crewman lol.

If you can see red and green you would be a good tank crew man.

Yes, I can see red and green just fine. I feel like I see all colors well, I just can’t see all the numbers in that dot test at MEPS

The reason for the red and green is that with those you would be able to find the target faster in the scope and get a kill shot faster
