Two Vietnam veterans will be awarded the Medal of Honor on Sept. 15 during a White House ceremony.

Retired Command Sgt. Major Bennie G. Adkins will receive the nation's highest award for valor for combat actions at Camp A Shau from March 9-12, 1966, where he served as an intelligence noncommissioned officer with Det. A-102, 5th Special Forces Group, 1st Special Forces.

Spec. 4 Donald P. Sloat will be awarded the medal posthumously for heroic actions in combat near Hawk Hill Fire Base, Vietnam, on Jan. 17, 1970. Sloat was an M-60 machine gunner with Company D, 2nd Battalion, 1st Infantry Regiment, 196th Light Infantry Brigade, Americal Division.

These were long over due in my opinion.

Thank you for sharing this Dr. Daley. We must always remember the sacrifices of those who came before us, even if it is long overdue.

One of my great uncles earned MOH during Indian Wars.  Fascinating story (at least to our family). Unfortunately he later fell off a mule and died.  True story (William G. Cubberly/Coberly).

SGM (Join to see) , I'll make it a point to read up on him. I can only imagine the pride you family must have for him.
EDIT: Just read his citation. Wow. And, I see where you get the genes for that 'stache' of yours... he had quite the beard!

There is no doubt that this award ceremony is long overdue.
