U.S. Navy: "awright! It's assholes and elbows!" meaning: it's field day. No, that's not a trip on the beach, it's thursday, and everything gets cleaned, dusted, polished.

PO3 Bob McCord - You folks ever catch a "sea bat"? I remember we caught one on a transit home. Had a guy down on his knees trying to look under a wash tub to get a peek and they gave him the sea bat. Guy was dense and told them to knock it off because he wanted to see the sea bat. got down again with the same results

PO3 Bob McCord - Actually that was my brother's from the Enterprise. He was a graduate of one of the first Data System Tech classes. He had been going to ET A school and about 3/4s of the way through they asked if he wanted to go to DS A school. Then when he graduated he served a brief tour at the old Fleet Combat Directions Systems Pacific before joining the newly commissioned Big E for an around the world cruise. It was a tough life but he sacrificed himself. He got out after that Too much stress I guess.

FUBAR was carried over from World War II into Korea and Vietnam
by U.S. Army soldiers. This described a screwed up mission.
Same thing for SNAFU !

SMSgt Lawrence McCarter - Sounds like what I did with my army duffel bag.
I had my summer class A khaki and winter green uniforms along with OD fatigues and
boots in that duffel bag for years until my wife put the uniforms on hangers. I don't have
the black Sam Browne gear I'm wearing in the photos but did hang on to my MP duty
white hat and MP arm brassard. We did the bloused boots in winter and summer with
the greens and khakis. If I recall correctly the only other army troops that wore bloused
boots with their class A uniforms were Green Berets Special Forces and Airborne Rangers.
Good that you still have your Sam Browne gear with the police baton and handcuffs.
Did the Air Force Police allow you to wear patent leather gear? Nice to hear from you.

SPC Woody Bullard - At that point in Class A or class B uniform only The Air Police and some groups like Para Rescue, Combat Controllers and small units like that wore bloused boots, it wan't authorized for anyone else. Patent leather gear could be worn but it wasn't an issue item, I didn't have any, very few did. When I first came in the white hats were only a cover that went over the regular service cap in 1969 the one piece white hat like Yours was issued first issued. We were happy to have those, the old white cover had to be constantly taken off and washed and We had to have spares. The new once peice was a lot easier to take care of. Later around 1972 the swivel holster was replaced by the Border Patrol Holster and We changed from tan into the two tone blue uniform as shown in the picture above. The white hat remained. We no longer had the leather strap or what We called the suicide strap across our chest. The belt and accessories were still leather however as You can see here. Unlike Army MPs who carried 45s though We carried the Smith and Wesson, Model 15, Combat Masterpiece which was a .38 caliber revolver. Also for the first time a left handed shooter could wear His weapon on the left side, the old swivel holsters were all right handed. I was able to draw with My right hand back then but it was My left hand finger that went on the trigger to fire which worked fine, I fired Expert every time I went to the range. I could fire right handed but left was more accurate.
We also didn't wear brassards but an Badge or what We had called an Air Police Shield, later Security Police Shield. It seems later Army MPs also went to a badge. The uniform in the picture the shirt was actually light blue and the pants dark blue , just like Your Army combo except for light green and dark green in Your case.

SMSgt Lawrence McCarter - I never liked that leather strap going across my back over my shoulder and across my chest attached to the belt. Suicide strap was a good name for that item. While trying to break up a fight a soldier grabbed that strap and pulled me down on top of him during the brawl. The old .45 caliber pistol was a powerful
weapon that we carried back then but I heard army MPs went to the Beretta later after I
left the army. Army MPs did get a police badge which I think they wear with their class A uniform. I have seen the MP brassard still worn with the cammo fatigues. Those light green dress shirts came in after I was discharged. That is a great photo of you and the patrol car. Sharp uniform. I look at these old photos of us and wonder where all the years went and were we ever that young.

SPC Woody Bullard - Yes, both the Army and Air Force changed to the M9, Beretta 9MM semi auto pistol. You looked sharp as an MP also but then the We all took a lot of pride in our Military appearance and demeanor. The APs and MPs did set a good example with their sharp uniforms.

In 2nd Inf BDE, 10th Mountain Div, Zonk was an order only issued by the BN or BDE CDRs. It was only used once in the two years I was in that unit. It meant if you were out of sight of the CDR who had yelled, Zonk, in 10 seconds, you got the day off. If still in his sight after 10 seconds you got put on shit detail for that whole day. It was usually the new guys that didn't know to disappear that got put on detail. I have always been a fast learner so when everyone else sprinted away I did the same. I had to track down one of my subordinates an hour later to get the specifics on what exactly the deal was. In that same unit PT was never canceled, even at minus 40, driving rain, snow or fog. They just commented as, good training weather and did pt anyway. At minus 20 and colder PT was done in the barracks hallway then we ran hallways and stairs. We had three platoons and three floor barracks so one platoon per floor doing platoon PT.

Common lingo for any given A/C maintainer, and I know of a few peers that got scolded for using the phase in earshot of their wife.

As for me, I'm a retired EW Avionics troop.
