I am fast approaching my pay date for my reserve retirement. Already handled all the paperwork submittal and stuff. Spoke to HRC. Now its just wait for what? I have noticed some things happening like emails notifying me that some set of orders were ipermed. Does DFAS contact you? Just curious what to expect.

HRC has an online calculator requiring cac access. It brings up your data and will give you a fairly accurate gross pay amount. Correspondingly, there’s another link which will calculate your Srp reduction. I can’t give you the direct link, cuz I’m already retired, but it’s there.

I no longer have a CAC either. I can figure the pay. But I was curious what will happen next. This comes up for reservists who reach age 60, or earlier if pay date is reduced like mine was to age 59.

1SG (Join to see) I remember military.com gave the math for the calculation. If youre redux or high 3, it can get complicated but the numbers still worked.

Make sure if you were gray area you still have your DFAS account updated etc. Once everything is in order you should get a set of orders telling you that you are indeed retired and your pay will begin etc.... If everything is good in DFAS you will get a deposit. But I was grey area from August 2015 till Nov 2019 so I had to call DFAS, they back paid me an I get my pay every month. If you have an VA disability coming in, unless you are rated at 50% or higher they will take that from your Reserve pay, sucks but that is how they do it unless Congress passes the bill allowing you to keep both with no deductions. You can access some of the stuff from HRC by creating a regular login and pass word. I get on there occasionally. Did you attend any retirement functions, most RRCs have a retirement dept, you can email and they put on seminars usually about 8 hours with lunch on all your stuff, what to do etc.

I access the HRC my records portal and see what should be there. As far as DFAS, I lost access to that once I retired. I should gain access back once im getting paid. Its that sorta thing I was wondering about. I would hate to pass Oct 23 and not hear anything then call and find out "oh, sorry, we lost your shit"

I am 100% VA. and should get it all via CRSC as most of my stuff is combat related. But who knows at this point. Even if they took all of my retirement in favor of VA, my VA is $3550/mo which is over twice what my retirement should be so I am doing fine.

1SG (Join to see) - Being over 50% they will not take your VA out of your retirement, but under 50% like me they do take it out. I had to call DFAS but I had several years between retirement orders to actually retirement pay.

Any way you can get VA to 50%? I really don't get the reason for the offset and the 50% thing. A guy at >50% is getting more VA money than the guy less than 50%. How is that fair? Plus, how do they connect VA disability with retirement pay? Two completely different things. With the logic they use, if you work at all it should be offset by VA, if you get SSDI (which a lot of guys do if they are VA disabled) then it should offset. Total bullshit from Congress to do this, or allow it to be done. My guess is those in office are not retired military or VA disabled.

1SG (Join to see) - I guess and can apply for an adjustment. There is a congressman who has a bill that would stop this deduction but so far the powers that be in congress have not brought it to the floor.
