How does Tricare Reserve Select compare to your employer health plans? Do most opt for Tricare and are there many problems finding in-network providers?

From what I've seen, if you are in a major metro area, especially in close proximity to military facilities, it's not a big deal. The further you are from a major metro, the more difficult it is to find a tricare provider - especially one who is accepting new patients. The problem is 2-fold, less provider density and less incentive to sign on as a provider with yet another insurance plan (and one that has relatively fewer patients). They have/had a few quirks as I remember (didn't cover chiropractic at the time), but was roughly as good as my civilian employer's insurance overall. My ex, in a rural area, couldn't find a provider in network in a reasonable commuting distance. This info is from the 2014-2017 timeframe, YMMV.

TRS has been phenomenal for my family and me. I work for a large multinational corporation and our insurance plan doesn’t hold a light to it. We can see just about any doctor we want and everything is very affordable for us. There’s a map on the TRS website to find providers.
