There are really only 2 great duty stations, the one you're going to and the one you just left

IMHO..Fort Sill. terrible weather much of the time and incessant artillery fire, sometimes 24-7

All posts are what you make of them. They are only as good or bad as you make them. Some people love some places they have been stationed while others think they were the worst

That's a very sick man, 1SG. To each their own I guess. Being a Yank, I hated it.

I was at Fort Polk 1992-1993, and it sucked. We did not have any internet or cable TV at that time. Cell phones were just coming out. Luckily two of my buddies from Germany relocated around the same time and we left every weekend we were not in the field.

SGM Frank Marsh - Hey, I was at Ft Polk, 91-95, 5th Mech, Aviation BDE S2, then Joint Readiness Training Center O/C and Company Cmdr for HQ Ft Polk and JRTC. It was #2 on my list, 11 months in the Aleutian Islands beat it out for my worst assignment.

Ft. Drum is my worst one so far, hopefully Bragg will have a lot more to offer.

In 20 years the I was in, I can say I successfully avoided such thrilling places as Ft. Hood, Ft. Polk, Ft. Sill, and many of the other places. My best tour was at Ft. Greely Alaska, where I learned to fly a HUEY

What makes a place a good or bad place to be varies with every individual. When I was on active duty, some posts were known as "great places to fish and hunt". That meant that there was nothing else to do, and the location was totally out in the boondocks. Some bases were known as being very expensive to live in the area, and to some that meant they were in or near exciting city locations with plenty of things to do, places to go out to eat, etc. I loved my years in the Army, all 24 of them, and never had a bad assignment. If I exclude my year in Vietnam, the worst place I was ever assigned to was ....wait, none of them were bad. The best was my four years at the US Military Academy at West Point, as an officer at the hospital, or maybe it was my 3 years in Heidelberg, Germany, or maybe it was the three years living right on the Chesapeake Bay at Aberdeen Proving Grounds, or maybe my two years at the Army hospital in Aurora, CO, or maybe.....
