There are really only 2 great duty stations, the one you're going to and the one you just left

Same in the Navy -great ship you left and a great ship you have orders to, the one you are on...but writing that , Pearl Harbor, Japan, Washington State are great. Norfolk, San Diego are, well there are too many ships and sailors. A hidden gem is Mayport Florida. Short time to get to sea and the base is divided by a golf course. Wonderful beaches and nice community. I have written about the surface Navy, not submarine and aviation.

Five worst. Ft Bragg was the worst hands down. Which tied for second place with Ft. Polk for the worst duty stations in the Army in 1979. Nothing not even my four deployments in 2oo6, 2008, 2010,and 2013 were as bad as that place was in 1978 to 1981. Best ever a little place that closed a few years Back Vint Hill Farms know as the best kept secret of the ASA.

Great duty stations. As M.P in Korea, 63-64, at PanMunJom with the UNCommand 8th Army, wore the United Nations patch. Vietnam ll Corps advisory Pleiku, with 560th Military Police Co, 64-65 and last was 4th MP’s, 4th Inf Div, Fort Lewis, WA., 1965-66. Separated after 3 years of active duty. Stateside was worst, overseas was best.

All posts are what you make of them. They are only as good or bad as you make them. Some people love some places they have been stationed while others think they were the worst

Wisdom from the 1st Shirt! I loved every place I was stationed. All had something different to offer. You just have to go out and find it!

Only one that comes close is Ft Polk, LA for basic in '69. But to be honest, didn't see much besides the training grounds. Otherwise, all my assignments were pretty good. Some of the folks I had to work with left a lot to be desired, but the locations were good to excellent.

I have to agree, each post I was assigned a lot of people just said you will hate it there. But I always had to look for the best in each place, and I found it each time. We may have had names for those stations, Like Ft. Useless (Ft. Eustis), Planet Ord (Ft. Ord), ect. But I miss a little of each place I was stationed

Ft. Drum is my worst one so far, hopefully Bragg will have a lot more to offer.

1st Lieutenant Barnhart----Actually I refused to have the company do a PT run in negative zero weather, in spite of the Battalion Sergeant Major raising hell about it. As a leader your responsible to protect your soldiers---especially from career oriented idiots.

If you don’t like cold & lots of snow in winter, and hellacious mosquitos in the field in summer, then Fort Drum might not be your “cup of tea”. LOL! Climb To Glory!
