15 Years After 9/11, My Generation’s War Hasn’t Ended Yet

We blew it badly in Iraq- CIA lied to Powell, Donald Rumsfeld did not listen to General Shinseki, Paul Bremmer did not listen to the Iraq Generals and fired all high ranking military and all Baath Party government officials making them unemployed and the new enemy. 5 years later we were finally helping to get things together and President Obama won and promised to pull our soldiers out as the Iraqi Government was in Gridlock (which it still is) and gave birth to ISIL because the Iraqi Government was not going to pay the Sunni Arab militias anymore and they went to join ISIL. I am relieved that we are still in Afghanistan and we don't quit like the British did in 1913! I lost my 1SG to an SVBIED in Afghanistan in 2009. His funeral was closed casket. I went to 6 ramp ceremonies at FOB warrior in Iraq in 2005. What a waste of so many lives in Iraq only for the politicians to throw it away in 2010 on a foolish campaign promise!

1. I was one of many hundreds involved in the planning for Desert Storm in 1990 and OEF from 2001 onwards.
2. One friend and USMA classmate led the team which identified, tagged and removed the Niger yellow-cake from Iraq.
3. Three of my friends and USMA classmates led the brigades charging to Baghdad while I was laid up in Walter Reed Army Medical Center from complications in Mitral-valve repair surgery.
4. One of my friends and USMA classmates who commanded a 101st Airborne Brigade was wounded when his tent was attacked by a Muslim Army NCO throwing grenades and friring into tents.
5. One of my friends and USMA classmates commanded the 75th Ranger Regiment in the western desert.
6. I trained unknown numbers of the infantrymen who fought and died in OIF and OEF.

You ended it. You won it. Sadly, the politicians did what politicians always do and used it as a launching pad for another. I know. I've seen this happen before. WWI begat WWII. WWII begat the Cold War and its bastard child, the Korean War. The Cold War begat The Islamic Terrorists and all its bastard children around the world.
