The F-22 is doing what it was designed to do and preforming in the manner it was supposed to .... the F-35 is falling way short and a total disappointment... and this was the Initial findings in the 1990's when the initial tests were done...

Yeah, they keep sinking money into that program because they've spent so much, they want a return. Any return. Any decent gambler knows that there comes a time that you know the next hand isn't going to get any better, the table's as cold as the deck, and you need to just take whatever chips you have left and walk away.

SFC Smith, not to contest what you write, but I have heard that the F-35 is a fine fighter that also projects real time video of the battle space to the ground and commanders that need it. Pilots that are rated to fly it speak well of it. It is not as capable as the Raptor but was never intended to be. The price per aircraft has fallen below $180 million which is still too high but better than a quarter of a billion.

The F-22 performs as a superb war bird. Its ability to broadcast real time video of the battlefield lessens the need for AWAC birds. The USAF got its money worth out of the F-22 and the true shame was cutting production at 186 frames. I had heard talk of the AF being mandated to study what it would take to start a new line of production for more of the F-22's but have heard mum's the word on it. I think an updated production line of the Raptors should have commenced yesterday! I do appreciate the F-15. It is a fine fourth generation war bird. My old ANG unit had the F-15 for only a short time and in fact deployed to Hawaii as their ANG unit went mission capable on the Raptors. It took Hawaii some time to get pilots & maintainers up to speed for the new war bird. I personally am glad that a fighter wing of F-22's protects our western most state and can project force far into the Pacific Ocean area.

Thanks fro sharing an interesting comparison of the tried and true F-15 Eagle against the yet-to-be-proven in combat F-22 Raptor SP5 Mark Kuzinski.
Of course we know that the pilot is the most crucial aspect of a fighter's performance.
