with 22 years of Navy service and multiple sea deployments, I never saw combat.

Thanks for sharing an intriguing question PO1 Tony Holland. FYI I was a Cold war warrior and then I was involved in the planning stages for some conflicts [Desert Storm, OEF and its operations] as well as many planning contingencies which I can not discuss ;-)
