I don't know what to tell you SSgt (Join to see) - something is wrong with our legal system when they are looking at who is sitting in the POTUS Chair instead of legally protecting our federal dollars from these rogue mayors. I just don't know what to think. Of course, that is my opinion I'm sure there are plenty of supporters of this decision, mostly people that are getting away with breaking the law in some cases. Again, just my opinion. I respect everyone's opinion at the end of the day!

Ask why a GOP majority Congress hasn't introduced legislation to eliminate the grants to sanctuary cities and call it a budgetary cost effectiveness measure to reallocate federal funding to other areas? Chances are some of the GOP lawmakers support the current measure that authorizes the grants.

I am learning that this issue is not as simple as it first seems. Immigration is the exclusive responsibility of the Federal Government, as is the enforcement of such laws. If you will recall, Sheriff Joe Arpaio of Arizona was convicted in FEDERAL court of contempt when he refused to comply with a court order that he stop enforcing federal immigration laws by asking detainees to prove they were in the country legally. This conviction was based on the above premise, that the Federal Government has exclusive responsibility for creating and enforcing immigration laws. Thus, non-federal entities like states and counties, are under no legal obligation to assist in the enforcement of such federal laws and there is scant the Fed Govt can do to compel them to do so (in fact, Sheriff Joe was convicted of doing just that!). Whether there is any moral responsibility to protect their citizenry by cooperating with federal immigration authorities, especially in the case of illegal immigrants who are convicted of crimes of violence, remains debatable.

I good summary but with one minor correction need Joe failed to stop a specific tactic in enforcing Immigration all. Racial profiling is what got him in to trouble. Not only that but stopping and harassing people without a legal reason. The profiling and strongman tactics were the problem.

Here's a solution: if states don't want to obey federal law, they can always leave the Union. Oh wait, but then they won't get federal handouts for breaking the law.

SSG(P) (Join to see) - you do realize that the cities and states are, in fact, obeying federal law? There have been multiple court cases that have confirmed that the cities and states do not have a duty to report illegal immigrants, and that they cannot legally hold immigrants for INS without a warrant or other court order.

How about following the law if you want to tie the money to immigration enforcement? You know, have Congress pass the law...
