Did I tell you We had a CDR from COMSUBLANT telling our crew that they could be disqualified from submarines. I asked him what if I wanted to disqualify. Kind of irritated him, he said my career would be over. In fact, I would have liked to have finished my career on a bird farm. See how different a MCPO had it compared to a sub.

MCPO Roger Collins I had a good friend that was an O-5 that literally refused command of a Sub, was disqualified and denuked. Yes he never made O-6 but he was happy with his decision. Retired as an O-5, great guy really had my six.

Know what was happening at the time I retired and can see the reason for his decision. I kid the “skimmers”, but every surface type and aviation types I served under was far better leaders than I saw on the boats.
