Don't know why he should feel ashamed. The government allowed the people to decide their direction rather than force a direction on them. Like any divorce, subtle details like who gets the kids and the house and the car have to be sorted out. Shame he and the haters don't have that worked out.

The UK spends more in Europe than Europe spends in the UK. So its worth the EU's while to make the exit deal sweet for the UK. Only real bugaboo was that Britain as a voter, should have waited until the two main nationalistic votes were over. Britain was expecting (via media) Scotland to become independent and Northern Ireland to return to Ireland. It never happened. Had Northern Ireland went back to being part of Ireland and had Scotland become independent, BREXIT would have happened overnight.

Okay my friend PO1 William "Chip" Nagel. As a descendant of British citizens and an avid student of history, I had to chuckle at Elton John' statement 'I am a European – not a stupid, imperialist English idiot'

The Guardian published this for their own purposes.
He is certainly entitled to his opinion as is every other British citizen in this matter of to Brexit or not :-)
My British, Welsh and French relatives are mixed on this issue.
Personally for many reasons, I am in favor Britain, Germany and potentially France leaving the European Union since they tend to be the ones that bail out the nations in risk of default such as Greece and Italy.
1. Western Europe has borne an influx of an overwhelming to national infrastructure, influx of refugees with terrorists intermingled form North Africa, Syria, Iraq, etc.
2. Britain has long been a nation embracing the commonwealth of nations. Walking through London, England you will likely come across restaurants, cafes, and shops representing an amazing variety of cultures from the British Commonwealth nations who have taken up residence.
3. Yes of late, there has been violence perpetrated by Muslims in England and to some degree against Muslims in retaliation.

France on the other hand has felt collective guilt at a national level periodically who who colonials were treated in French colonies. They have taken in Algerian folks since before the war for Algerian independence in the 1950's. France harbored Ayatollah Khomeini and his entourage in the sprawling metropolis of Paris from which he staged the Iranian Revolution in 1979.
This century Paris has many ghettos including Shia ghettos [Iran and Iraq] and Sunni ghettos [Algeria, Chad, Libya, Syria, Iraq and elsewhere in Saharan and sub-Saharan Africa including the Sahel region.

Elton John was born Reginald Kenneth Dwight on 25 March 1947. He has married to his spouse David Furnish in 2014. I believe they are pictured together at top.

"While performing on Wednesday in Verona on his last ever world tour, Farewell Yellow Brick Road, he said: “I’m ashamed of my country for what it has done. It’s torn people apart … I am sick to death of politicians, especially British politicians. I am sick to death of Brexit. I am a European. I am not a stupid, colonial, imperialist English idiot.”
John has previously expressed his dismay over Brexit. In July 2018, he said: “I don’t think people in Britain were told the truth to start with … They were promised something that was completely ridiculous and wasn’t economically viable.” He said the Brexit process was confusing, like “walking through Hampton Court maze blindfolded, being turned around 16 times and trying to find your way out”.
The singer’s profile is currently as high as it has been in years. As well as the world tour, he is preparing to publish his first autobiography in the autumn. Rocketman, a biopic about his rise to fame and struggles with substance misuse, is currently in cinemas.
He will perform two UK dates this month, in Hove and Cardiff, before returning in November 2020 for 18 further UK dates. He was forced to cancel Thursday’s concert in Verona under doctor’s orders, after his vocal cords were inflamed due to a cold, but his management expect him to be well enough to perform in Wiesbaden, Germany, on Saturday."

This reminds me of the 1991 "interview" by Rowan Atkinson of Elton John. In that he was a good sport.
