“Attention Day!” is a timely focus at the national and personal level IMHO.
I pay attention to the Holy Spirit throughout the day and night, by God's grace
1. As many of us served or are serving in the military we understand attention as a position as well as appropriate focus.
a. Those of us who spent significant time at attention were taught to stand appropriately as the body is designed not as a rigid automaton. This enables us to stand for 30 minutes or more without passing out :-)
b. As a USMA cadet, I was told I had scoliosis and asked it was contagious. :-)
c. I was given exercises to do on stairs to help mitigate the impact of scoliosis. I spent hundreds if not thousands of hours at attention under arms as well as in class, inspection, and meal formations.

2. My 97-year-old mother-in-law has dementia and has trouble paying attention for more than a few minutes. She recognizes her natural grandson but calls my darling wife the old woman who stays in her room .

3. At the national level, it certainly seems that leaders of cities and states where riots have been ongoing for months need to pay attention to their responsibilities.

Good Thursday, August 20, 2020 morning my friend COL Mikel J. Burroughs

Quotes I appreciate
1. Simone Weil 'Attention is the rarest and purest form of generosity'
2. Ruben Chavez 'Pay attention to the things you are naturally drawn to. They are often connected to your path, passion and purpose in life. Have the courage to follow them'

Scriptures
a. Hebrews 2:1-4 ESV 'Therefore we must pay much closer attention to what we have heard, lest we drift away from it. For since the message declared by angels proved to be reliable, and every transgression or disobedience received a just retribution, how shall we escape if we neglect such a great salvation? It was declared at first by the Lord, and it was attested to us by those who heard, while God also bore witness by signs and wonders and various miracles and by gifts of the Holy Spirit distributed according to his will.'
2. Mark 4:23-25 ESV 'If anyone has ears to hear, let him hear.” And he said to them, “Pay attention to what you hear: with the measure you use, it will be measured to you, and still more will be added to you. For to the one who has, more will be given, and from the one who has not, even what he has will be taken away.'
c. Luke 6:41-42 ESV 'Why do you see the speck that is in your brother’s eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye? How can you say to your brother, ‘Brother, let me take out the speck that is in your eye,’ when you yourself do not see the log that is in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take out the speck that is in your brother’s eye.'
d. 2 Peter 1:19-21 ESV 'And we have the prophetic word more fully confirmed, to which you will do well to pay attention as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts, knowing this first of all, that no prophecy of Scripture comes from someone’s own interpretation. For no prophecy was ever produced by the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.

LTC Stephen F. Stephen, your story of your mother-in-law reminded me of my beloved grandmother. I was on leave visiting my parents. My mother told me that I needed to go see my grandmother and warned me that she might not recognize me because of her senility. I went to see her, and she greeted me by name and asked me how I was doing in the Army, and if I were doing well. She then asked me who the strange lady was in the doorway. I said it was Mareta Ann. Mareta Ann was her oldest and first born daughter. It is strange how the mind works.

LTC Stephen F. - Great perspective, quotes, and videos Stephen.

"May you always get the attention of those you lead, and may you always pay attention to their recommendations, suggestions, and needs as a leader. May you always hold their interest; may you continue your journey in life by paying close attention to your own health; and keep you family safe, secure, happy, and healthy. Your attention has value!" — COL (Ret) Mikel Burroughs
