We had our PE classes in grade school patterned after the program too, but I never cared about it much.

We had this when I was in elementary school. I actually used the program when I had the cub scouts in Ankara, Turkey. And I used the adult version with my squadron when overseas.

This was a great program which should never have been allowed to fade away. I earned several of those awards and it helped me discover I was pretty good at running, which as a result became a habit for me. I was sad to see it was gone during the prime periods my kids went to school, but my wife and I still insisted, they will join a sport during each semester/term of the year. I don’t care which one, but they will join one. My son is a high school state champion cross country team runner and my daughter hold one basketball record for her school along with having earned the Elite 8 Award for having earned a spot on a varsity team 8 times throughout her high school career. Fitness is highly important and should absolutely be coupled with academics throughout our kid’s grade school period. Instead this country has become more and more obese. I applaud Trump for bringing this program back.

Awesome. Strangely, I was a cross-country and track runner in late 1978-1980 High School yet my coaches at John F.Kennedy High School in Orange County, La Palma High School never offered us the chance to earn the badges. I was just a football and baseball guy. I didn't start running until after high school and got into it in the Marines. My kids are active in hiking. I agree this is a good thing to bring back.

My US high school football and baseball friends would come to me to build them a running regimen and pace them. We had a two time baseball state championship team, so I like to say I helped in my own small way. I grew up in Latin America, so by the time I came home to the US for high school (Junior year) all I knew was running and soccer. I was sick of soccer at the time, and ironically I could have walked on to my high school's team as their goal keeper (or defender). In Latin America I was the American (who like to use their hands and get in the way), so "get in the goal" they ordered. I was good, but again, I was sick of soccer by that time and never grew a passion for it (this can happen when you play against kids who live and breath it). In my first two years for high school (in Latin America) I was on the varsity basketball team, but coming back to the US, I had no chance in basketball (where we have kids that live and breath it) when even the freshmen were running circles around me on the court and dunking (which I could only do if no one is guarding me and I got multiple attempts). So I ran, which was as great way to meet athletic girls, as the cross country and track teams always trained and went to meets together.
