Good morning, Rallypoint, and welcome to the January 10, 2026 edition of Astronomy Picture of the Day (APOD). Today we have an earth-bound view of the planet Jupiter taken from Cebu, Philippines. Our Jovian neighbor is now at 'opposition'...which means it is opposite from the Sun and at its closest (and brightest) for viewing from our back yards. It is cloudy (and will be rainy today) in the Carolina Piedmont, so I'll have to check it out over the next few days. Hope the view is better where you are. Cheers.

Maj William W. 'Bill' Price I am not intricately knowledgeable of Astronomy, but I know what is beautiful. This is a very nice image of Jupiter.

When I was a kid...I built a four inch reflecting telescope - A jeweler helped me grind the lens. I did see Jupiter, but not good enough to see the red spot. The guy who helped me build my telescope had a ten inch reflecting telescope in his little domed observatory (Commercial Scope top of the line) and that was the first time I saw the Red Spot And a few of the "bands". But my little four incher sure made the moon a delight to look at.
