Unless you return to the 12 carrier fleet there are going to be unavoidable gaps. Even with the "Trump'ed up" budget we will not see that untill 2022 and then go back to 11 when Nimitz is decommissioned in 2025. We need to fully fund ROCH and the Ford program at a level to attain and maintain a 12 carrier force. Maybe put Nimitz into another ROCH and/or accelerate the Kenedy and Enterprise while laying the fourth hull. All of this has to happen today because of the long lead times on the items needed to execute the above.

12 carrier wings! That would solve problems; however, the cost of a carrier wing is probably too great to get by the stingy bean counters. We certainly need 12 or even more carriers. The new Ford series still has a few bugs to work out but once they are the worth of it will be seen.

SSgt Robert Marx - I think the Ford is through it growing pains, still a small issue with landing arrestors but we should see delivery in late April. She will be the first carrier with their own phased array radar system that use to be regulated to the small boys. There are so many momentous advancements on this class that it will ensure our carrier domination well into following generations through their 50 year life. Mind you there is nothing that floats that meets the capabilities of the old Nimitz class that was built over 40 years ago.

I believe that the arresting gear built for the U.S.S. Ford still has a few bugs, enough that the Kennedy will have more traditional arresting gear that had been used on the Nimitz class.
