Thanks for sharing part of the rest of the story TSgt Joe C.. Much of the world thinks of Pearl Harbor naval bases when the subject of the sneak attack of Hawaii on 12/7/1941 comes up.
The corresponding attack on Bellows Air Force Station, Hawaii to decimate our capability to engage the Japanese fighters and fighter bombers which devastated the fleet is less well know.
I am glad that about "100 people came together in honoring the legacy and heroism of Bellows servicemembers during a commemoration ceremony Dec. 8, 2016" and that those honored included Army Air Corps pilots "2nd Lts. George Whiteman and Hans Christiansen and 1st Lt. Samuel Bishop, all P-40B Warhawk pilots with the 44th Pursuit Squadron, and Lt. Paul Plybon and Cpl. David Akui. Akui is credited with capturing the first Japanese prisoner of war."
