Don't worry. The taxpayers will pay it... don't we always?

You paid for your education. I paid for mine. If we can afford that, why can’t we afford to pay for everyone else’s?

There are several existing pathways for student loan forgiveness. A total and permanent VA disability rating, teaching for 10 years in a title 1 school system are two I know right off hand. The real question is what kind of equity is being returned through a proposed 50k forgiveness. I think American taxpayers shouldn’t be footing the bill for genuinely worthless degrees.

Marketing, Business, History, and Skilled Trades are some fields I can absolutely get on board with. I think there should be GPA cutoff requirements too, but everyone knows that saying about opinions...

Not really sure why I should pay someone’s college debt with my no-college income. I already paid my wife’s and kid’s.

I’ll admit, I felt like Billy Madison when I went back to school. Hell, I felt like Billy Madison at a couple military schools too, but my favorite experience was having some wet behind the ears kid say “So, you’re using your GI Bill? You get to come here for free? You have no idea what it’s like to work to pay for your school!”

I was fortunate that when I started college there was a large population of Vietnam Era vets. My dorm was about 80% vet. Weekends were wild, but Sunday night - Friday we pretty much kept our nose to the grindstone. The last half of my college, that number had dropped off significantly. The vast majority were straight out of HS, and with bad attitudes and zero work ethic. I moved off campus and got my own apartment. It was that or do something I regretted.

I do kind of feel sorry for the Dean of Students. He never seemed to "get" us, and we knew it and pretty much ignored him.
