Thanks SGT John " Mac " McConnell for sharing the background on the international distress call and sharing the historical recreation which uses the distress call of the Titanic.
SOS [Morse code: three dots, three dashes and three dots] probably has no specific meaning just like 911 in this nation or 999 earlier in the UK were developed to be the phone numbers to call in an emergency. People can be trained over time. Unfortunately for the Titanic SOS was not a global replacement for "CQD."
However from the description in this article SOS could well be interpreted as Stop Signaling for all non-essential radio traffic back in the day
