Here's a little more to add to this great story, SGT John " Mac " McConnell. After son, Washington Roebling was injured, his wife, Emily was also instrumental in completion of the bridge. "As Chief Engineer, Roebling supervised the entire project from his apartment with a view of the work, designing and redesigning caissons and other equipment. He was aided by his wife Emily Warren Roebling who provided the critical written link between her husband and the engineers on site. Under her husband's guidance, Emily studied higher mathematics, the calculations of catenary curves, the strengths of materials, bridge specifications, and the intricacies of cable construction. She spent the next 11 years assisting Washington Roebling, helping to supervise the bridge's construction."
Many consider the John A. Roebling Suspension Bridge built in 1866 (pictured) between Cincinnati, OH and Covington, KY to be Roebling's precursor to the Brooklyn Bridge. LTC Stephen F. SP5 Mark Kuzinski SGT David A. 'Cowboy' Groth SGT (Join to see) Lt Col (Join to see)

Thanks for reminding us about the background of one of the most famous bridges in this nation and perhaps the world SGT John " Mac " McConnell.
This Brooklyn Bridge has been attempted to be sold more time in more scams than most others:-)
I haven't driven over it much since 1980; but, in 2005, after I took my darling wife to my 25th reunion at West Point I gave her a quick car-tour of Manhattan from Harlem through a couple parades and through the garment district, Wall Street, Times Square, the Bowery and across the Brooklyn Bridge through Brooklyn to Staten island to I-95.
In 1999, when my wife was brought to the church conference in New Orleans, the Pastor of Brooklyn Tabernacle who is James "Jim" R. Cymbala wanted to bring my now-darling-wife to his church to meet an eligible bachelor. However my pastor and his wife convinced her to come to our church to meet me. We met on October 8, 1999 the day before our shared birthday on October 9. The rest shall we say is history.
I drove my wife through Brooklyn to give her a sense of where she could have been living. She does not like the city life :-)

SGT John " Mac " McConnell - You are very welcome. When we share personal histories as we reflect on discussions, I think that resonates with many.
