De Gaulle felt that he had not been treated right by the US and and Great Britain during and after WW II. France was never represented at any of the conferences with the "Big Three", US, GB and USSR.
Part of the reason the US moved its bases out of France in the 60s and France pulled out of the military part of NATO.

Churchill said of DeGaulle in May 1943 - ''....He hates England and has left a trail of Anglophobia behind him everywhere...'' He was not far from the truth because DeGaulle also did not care for America. He was an arrogant, narcissistic demigod.
