That was a dark day for Marines......I never forgave Reagan for pulling out of there without avenging the deaths of those Marines. It felt like we were cutting and running......I'm sure there were factors considered that were above my pay grade.....but that's the way it felt. I also never forgave Carter for leaving our hostages in Iran for so long before he even attempted a rescue.

9 years ago, I work the staff sergeant was a marine Corporal then and he was in the next building over in the basement when the truck bomb crashed and blew up. He showed me a picture from the book where he was on top of the roof of the collapsed lyrics looking down when he was a teenager. Wish I had that picture today to post here. At that time, he was a marine Airborne qualified forward Observer for the battleships.

Thanks for reminding us about the sad days in Beirut, war-torn Lebanese capital as the USMC contingent too down the national colors and left the capital TSgt Joe C.
They had suffered heavy casualties mainly because of the truck bomb which detonated close to the barracks while many of the marines were sleeping.
FYI the Christian phalangist militia was Christian in name only similar to Christian democratic parties. In Lebanon the Druze, Christian phalangist and Palestinian militias fought against each other in the multi-faction civil war.
Lebanon was a playground for the rich until the late 1960s/early 1970s. Then factions vied for control in many cases using violence. Lebanon has been under the thumb of Syria for some time with Druze, Christian phalangist and Palestinian militias competing with Hezbollah and the Iranian factions.
